I was born in Austin, Texas and have always been very proud of my German heritage. My paternal grandparents were Edmund Feuerbacher & Ida Sternberg. In 1978 my father had his first hip replacement. After the surgery several of us were staying in town to help out and I found myself at loose ends when it wasn't my 'shift'. So to occupy my time I went to the Austin Library and started searching for anything about my family. All I wanted to do was join Daughters of the American Revolution and/or Daughters of the Republic of Texas. I eventually did join these two organizations, but not through the German lines. The Germany lines were pure, all German, until my dad married my mother, who is generally all American with no immigrants for generations back.
This journey has helped bring American, European and even World history to life for me. I hope that this site will make it easier for others to view the family history. Having begun my search at a fairly young age, I was fortunate that many older family members were still alive and willing to be interviewed, help identify photos and help with my research. Although I've been entering data into a database for years, it has taken a while to get it 'cleaned up' and formatted consistently enough to present. Every effort has been made to document facts, and the sources are generally cited. The footnotes usually will provide enough information that most documentation can be easily found. I try very hard not to enter a piece of information that is not documented, but sources can be of varying reliability. To date, I have not placed copies of my documentation within the site. I have only attached a few images--look for more in a future update. There are many documents in my possession that I have not yet entered or cited -- it is just more fun to research than to do data entry, so the data entry just gets put off!
Please enjoy this site and don't judge too much on the way some of the person pages read. I'm still working on those!
